LTER information managers see the importance of bringing leading edge capabilities in computing, communications, and information science to benefit and drive advances in ecological science. By recognizing that
  • Ecological Information Systems are Dynamic, in a continual state of evolution and refinement, and
  • Ecological Informatics is an area of active research, as well as a discipline that supports ecological research,
LTER Information Managers are preparing to meet the challenges of the next century. Activity areas that are having broad reaching impact include:
  • Metadata content standards for ecology
  • Published guidelines for managing research data
  • Development of Network Information System modules
  • Work with "Centributed" data dissemination models
  • National and international training in information management
