LTER Education

1998 Schoolyard LTER Programs

The LTER Network is developing a program to establish opportunities for students to conduct long-term data collection at or near their elementary or secondary schools.

The subject and the technique of the data collection will simulate ecology research projects conducted at nearby LTER sites.

Collaboration between LTER scientists and teachers at the school will help the students understand the importance and implications of the data they are collecting.

Eventually the LTER Network will maintain an accessible database for information collected by the students.  Interactions between LTER scientists, students and teachers will promote experiential learning in our schools.
