The LTER Climate Committee

Climate is one of the key drivers for all ecosystems and ecosystems have important feedbacks on climate. Over half the LTER sites have climate as a component in their main working hypotheses. The main functions of the LTERClimate Committee are to 1) help coordinate intersite research activities related to climate, 2) provide climatic analyses to support LTER ecologists, 3) provide intersite services such as standardization of meteorological observation and consultation on climatic matters.

Mission Statement .
The CLIMDES Project provides a description of the climates of, and selected data from, many LTER sites.
The CLIMSTAN Project provides guidance on LTER standards for observing, formatting and archiving climate data at LTER sites.

ClimDB is a system being developed by the LTER Data Managers Committee in association with the Climate Committee. A webpage (http://sql.lternet.edu/climdb/climdb.html) has been created to provide access to the daily and monthly climate data as well as to permit query by LTER site, weather station, and date, and to provide graphics capability.

Current Climate Committee membership may be viewed from the Network website at http://old.lternet.edu (from the home page click on "People", then on "View all email groups", then "View" Climate).
